T J & W A DYKES

The firm was founded in Hamilton around 1817 by a Thomas Dykes and remained in the hands of the Dykes family until the 1950s.

Members of the family became provost of Hamilton Burgh: John Dykes (from 1860 to 1869) and William Alston Dykes (from 1869 to 1875).

And in 1909 the firm gifted Cadzow Glen to the people of Hamilton.

It is one of the oldest surviving firms in Scotland with records that go back to just after the end of the Napoleonic Wars.

When the firm recently moved, staff uncovered a variety of fascinating artifacts, some of which originate from the early 19th century.  These include Deeds, Maps, and Extensive Records of the Lanarkshire area.

These have been transferred to Glasgow’s Mitchell Library. The Mitchell Library is going to have an almost complete set of records going back to 1817.

There have been many changes in the firm’s history; the most significant took place in 1994 when the business was merged with that of Borland Montgomerie Keyden, Solicitors in Glasgow, now known as BMK Wilson.

We are able to offer a full range of specialist services with experienced partners and staff.  We are committed to providing the highest quality service to our clients.

Our size enables us to ensure that the service remains personal and always based on a thorough knowledge of our clients’ requirements.

The resident partner is CATHERINE KERR, who joined the firm’s court department in 2002 and became a partner in 2005.  She practises in the field of civil litigation, family law, and child law, bar reports, adults with incapacity, licensing, bankruptcy, insolvency and contractual disputes.  She is a tutor in Civil Advocacy and Pleadings at Glasgow Graduate School of Law and a Member of the Family Law Association.

The firm are also local agents for out of Town practitioners. CATHERINE KERR and KEITH MACKENZIE (a Glasgow Partner) appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on a daily basis.

TJ & WA Dykes are pleased to announce that they have acquired the continuing and future business of Morwood & Co, a local Hamilton firm. Alan Morwood has retired from practice and his long serving and very able conveyancing paralegal, Lesley Hamilton, has joined the firm of TJ & WA Dykes in order to provide continuity of service to existing Morwood clients, and to complement TJ & WA Dykes’ existing conveyancing department. Lesley has over 30 years experience in a legal office. She qualified as a Specialist Conveyancing Paralegal in 2004 at Strathclyde University and is a member of the Scottish Paralegal Association. For the past 15 years, Lesley has dealt primarily with domestic conveyancing and Trust and Executry work.
